Asurion, a technology solutions company that employees more than 17,000 people, has received a state grant for it’s new headquarters in downtown Nashville. The headquarters will be located in the former building of The Tennessean newspaper which is located at the corner of Church Street and 11th Avenue North. Asurion officials have stated that when they open operations at their new headquarters, they will hire an additional 400 workers. The company has been operating in Nashville, Tennessee since the early 2000’s.

The property of the new Asurion headquarters was purchased by Highwood Properties of Raleigh, North Carolina who paid more than $55 million for the building and it’s surrounding parking lots. Highwoods will spend an additional $252 million redeveloping the property into two buildings with retail shops and parking garages. The redevelopment of the site is expected to be completed by fall 2021 and is within close walking distance to The Gulch and the soon to be built Nashville Yards.

Asurion, formerly Merrimac Group, offers insurance and tech support for companies that utilize smart phones, consumer electronics, tablets and other devices. The company was founded in 1994 by entrepreneurs Kevin Tawell and Jim Ellis in Silicon Valley, California. Asurion is privately held and currently operates in 14 different countries.
